Pick and place with delta robots

About the application:

In the production of fire-resistant glass, Vetrotech Saint-Gobain relies on cost-effective automation. The drylin delta robot sorts bulk material on pre-defined pallets that are then processed during the manufacturing procedure. This gives employees relief and greatly reduces costs. The robot system's short set-up times also provide greater flexibility, and the system can be expanded as desired.
During manufacture of the fire-resistant glass, the multilayer glass is encased in a compound that will provide protection if there is a fire. Before that, however, a liquid must be filled into special cavities between the glass panes. Plastic filling corners serve as placeholders.  The delta robot automatically places them in the pre-defined moulds before the panes are pressed.

The problem

The production process has so far been as follows: the plastic arrows are placed in predefined moulds, then picked up by a robot and positioned as placeholders, allowing the fire-resistant liquid to fill the cavity. This monotonous work was done by employees in addition to their daily activities, which meant an additional burden. An automated solutions needs to be efficient enough to pay for itself while delivering reliable results.

The solution:

The drylin delta robot, a low-cost robot system, is ideally suited as a cost-effective automation solution.
Integrated drylin NEMA stepper motors and encoders ensure the quick, precise handling. The lightweight aluminium and plastic construction makes the delta robot extremely cost-effective (less than €5,000) and ensures high speeds (pick rate of at least 30 per minute). This automated solution greatly accelerates processing, paying for itself in just twelve months. It also relieves employee workload, freeing up manpower for more demanding activities.
