Plain bearings made from iglidur A180 are suitable for application in direct contact with food. They are the ideal solution for bearing points on machines for the food and packaging industry, medical equipment manufacturing, small household appliances, etc. Even where wet cleaning contact occurs, the iglidur A180 is characterised by the lowest moisture absorption.

The upper short-term application temperature is +110°C. The compressive strength of iglidur A180 plain bearings decreases with increasing temperatures. The temperatures prevailing in the bearing system also have an influence on bearing wear. Additional protection is required at temperatures higher than +60°C.

iglidur A180 has been developed for low surface speeds. In dry operation, a maximum of 0.8m/s (rotating) or 3.5m/s (linear) is permitted for continuous use. The values given in the table indicate the limits at which frictional heat causes an increase up to the permanently permissible temperature. In practice, these limit values cannot always be achieved due to interactions.

|---|---|---|---|
| permanent | 0.8 | 0.6 | 3.5 |
| Short-term | 1.2 | 1.0 | 5.0 |

The maximum recommended surface pressure is a mechanical material parameter. Conclusions about the tribology cannot be drawn from this. The compressive strength of iglidur A180 plain bearings decreases with increasing temperatures. Diagram 02 illustrates this relationship. Diagram 03 shows the elastic deformation of iglidur A180 under radial load. Under the maximum recommended surface pressure of 20MPa, the deformation is less than 2.5%. Plastic deformation can be neglected up to this radial load. However, it also depends on the duration of the impact.
Coefficient of friction and wear resistance change with the application parameters. However, the coefficient of friction decreases significantly with increasing load (diagrams 04 and 05).

Diagram 06 shows test results with different shaft materials, which were carried out with plain bearings made from iglidur A180. The combination "iglidur A180/hard anodised aluminium shaft" clearly stands out. However, good to very good wear rates are also achieved on other shafts. Cf53 shafts are an example of the higher wear in swivelling applications compared to rotation (diagram 07).
iglidur A180 plain bearings can be used under a wide range of environmental conditions and in contact with numerous chemicals. The table provides an overview of the chemical resistance of iglidur A180 plain bearings at room temperature.

iglidur A180 plain bearings are standard bearings for shafts with h-tolerance (recommended minimum h9). The bearings are designed for press-fit into a housing machined to a H7 tolerance. After being assembled into a nominal size housing, the inner diameter automatically adjusts to the E10 tolerances.
